22nd August 2014: A really fantastic final concert. Highlights for me include Anita Herwitt Jones’ Hidden Rhymes, with viola and violin players standing up to sing to the accompaniment of the rest of their quartet. I was so proud of all the string players, but also the piano duet, which was such fun. The tutors played Brahms’ Sextet no 2, and the concert finished off with the orchestra accompanying 2 fantastic violin concertos. Georgina Pickering (age 11)  performing Vivaldi A minor concerto, and Mingho Cheung  (age 10) performing Bach A minor concerto.

A sell out audience supported the young chamber groups coached by Lucy Melvin during the term time. 24 pupils aged from 8 – 18 performed in quartets and trios, and then finished off with a grand finale of Karl Jenkins’ Palladio - although each group had rehearsed it individually, none of them had actually played it all together as an orchestra until the performance.
