Katy Furmanski

Katy enjoys a varied career in both performing and teaching the double bass. Professionally she plays with a wide variety of ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Northern Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, English National Opera and Nigel Kennedy’s Orchestra of Life as well as playing on numerous film scores. 

Katy is the double bassist for the Bottesini Ensemble, a group that specializes in chamber music that involves the double bass, and she has also enjoyed performing chamber music at the Marryat Players Chamber Music Festival and with The Barbican Ensemble, The Rosemary Consort, and the Arnold Camerata.

Education work is important to Katy in all its forms. She currently teaches the double bass at Tonbridge School and for Bromley Youth Music Trust and has coached young musicians on orchestral music with the Bromley Youth Symphony Orchestra, West Sussex County Youth Orchestra, Kings College School Wimbledon and the Marryat Players. She has worked on several varying outreach projects with the education department of the London Philharmonic Orchestra as well as with Ignite at the Wigmore Hall and Katy plays with the Kidenza orchestra and the Multi-Story Orchestra which both deliver educational and community centered performances.
