About

Chamber Players is a holiday music course which is held every Summer 2024 dates. It has been set up by Lucy Melvin, a violinist and teacher in South London, whose belief it is that working in small ensembles is the best way to learn and enjoy a musical instrument. Chamber Players tutors are all highly regarded in the profession, both as performers and teachers, and each of which come with their own wealth of experience to bring to the course.

Whether you are just beginning to explore the joy of playing music with others, or you are a very experienced player, who is looking for intensive quartet coaching by some highly regarded string players, chamber musicians and teachers – Chamber Players offers a great week of music making. With a large library of repertoire, there is music for everyone.

All coaching is aimed according to the ability of players, and pupils are placed in ensembles with other players of similar abilities and experience, so that every pupil gets the most out of the course. Everyone comes away having made good friends, and musical contacts, experienced coaching from top professionals, and learnt some more of the wonderful chamber music repertoire.

As well as the chamber music coaching, there are orchestral sessions throughout the week. Senior pupils are given the opportunity to rehearse a concerto movement. If any pupil would like to take this opportunity, please provide details in plenty of time so that we can make sure that the orchestral music is available. This is offered on a first-come-first served basis, and is subject to availability of orchestral music.

The course is open to string players of any ability, ages 6-18. Fees and Scholarships.

All rehearsals and performances take place at St Dunstan’s College in South East London, which has recently opened it’s Performing Arts Centre.
