Thames Tunnel Concert 2017

Thames Tunnel Concert

Monday 9th October, 7.30pm.
The Thames Tunnel, Brunel Museum, Rotherhithe, SE16 4LF

Haydn, op 76, no. 2; Boccherini, Op 10, no. 2; Mendelssohn Op 13.

Hartmut Ometzberger, Lucy Melvin, Dorothea Vogel and Robin Michael – all part of the Chamber Players family of chamber musicians, come together for this fund raising concert at the Brunel Museum on 9th October, to perform string quartet music which is all very close to their hearts.

The programme consists of Haydn’s Op 76 no. 2 – “The Fifths”, which Hartmut and Lucy 1st performed together when they were 18 years old, and students on a chamber music course. This was the start of a life-long friendship and musical partnership.

Boccherini and Haydn worked in Vienna contemporaneously. This Op 10 Quartet is in the same key as the Haydn quartet – whilst in a very different style, compliments the Haydn beautifully. Boccherini’s chamber music output was vast, and is not often performed, but each one is a treasure trove of delights.

No one can resist the wonderful Mendelssohn Quartet Op 13. It is a piece full of intensity and beauty.

The Thames Tunnel, was when it was first opened in 1843, known as the eighth wonder of the world. In this time, the Brunels did not just build bridges and tunnels, they organised concert parties, dance events, underwater banquets. This venue has got wonderful acoustics for chamber music performances, and after recent renovations, public access is greatly improved, and it is quickly becoming a highly sought after location for concerts.

Tickets are £12 full / £9 concession, and are available from www.wegottickets.com/chamberplayers
