Thames Tunnel Concert

Haydn, op 76, no. 4; Martinu Serenata, no. 2; Mendelssohn Quintet no. 2.

 Hartmut Ometzberger, Lucy Melvin, Oakki Lau, Geoffrey Irwin and Robin Michael – all part of the Chamber Players family of chamber musicians, come together for this fund raising concert at the Brunel Museum on 25th September, to perform a variety of carefully selected chamber music, by Haydn, Martinu and Mendelssohn. 

In contrast to last year’s stormy and beautifully intense programme, the music selected for this year’s programme is buoyant and uplifting. Opening the concert with Haydn’s Sunrise Quartet, and finishing with Mendelssohn’s joyful 2nd Quintet. 

The Thames Tunnel, was when it was first opened in 1843, known as the eighth wonder of the world. In this time, the Brunels did not just build bridges and tunnels, they organised concert parties, dance events, underwater banquets. This venue has got wonderful acoustics for chamber music performances, and after recent renovations, public access is greatly improved, and it is quickly becoming a highly sought after location for concerts.

Review of last year’s concert:  

A big thank you to you and your friends for a wonderful concert on Monday. I overheard the words “awesome” and “amazing” as I was leaving and those are my sentiments entirely. But for me, the best part was the close up view of four friends making music together and having fun at the same time – and, after all, that’s what chamber music is all about.
